Van Gaal invites fans to see United's future
Louis van Gaal has called on Manchester United supporters to back the young Reds taking on Hull City in tonight's FA Youth Cup tie at Old Trafford.
Comparing the prestigious competition to its equivalent in Holland – a country renowned for producing high levels of talent – the United boss feels tournaments are vital for youngsters to progress.
The Dutchman told MUTV: “We have in the Netherlands a structure that the best players have to play against each other so they can develop. When you start in a competition like this, at this age, it's fantastic. You can develop yourself much more than if you play against local teams. I hope that a lot of fans will come to see our future."
Van Gaal is eager for fans to take advantage of free entry on the night to get an early look at some talented teenagers who could one day grace the Theatre of Dreams in the Barclays Premier League. And as for the young players in Paul McGuinness' Under-18s squad, the manager hopes they will keep in mind the breakthrough of youngsters such as Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett, proving that first-team opportunities are available to those who deserve them.

When asked if the current academy players can take inspiration from his young defensive duo, the manager replied: “I hope so, I'm doing that always in every club. It's also to inspire these lads. They are coming to Manchester United to play in the first team and I hope that they have that ambition. Now the moment has come that a lot of youngsters are playing in the first squad.”
